This Is Atlanta at The Sun ATL
A landmark exhibition celebrating Atlanta and the American South through painting, photography, self-taught art, vernacular traditions, and contemporary voices timed to coincide with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Sun ATL presents This Is Atlanta, a major exhibition celebrating the artists, histories, and cultural traditions that define Atlanta and the American South.
Opening during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the exhibition occupies two floors and more than 9,000 square feet at The Sun ATL in Atlanta's historic Old Fourth Ward. Bringing together painters, photographers, self-taught artists, and contemporary practitioners, the exhibition highlights both the city's cultural legacy and its ongoing creative evolution.
The exhibition includes football-inspired works by Congolese-born painter Raphael Bahindwa and artist Kosmo Vinyl, whose connection to Atlanta dates to The Clash's historic 1982 appearance at The Fox Theatre. Photographers Jim Alexander, Sue Ross, and Steve West contribute portraits documenting influential figures from Atlanta's civil rights and cultural history.
Additional featured artists include Howard Finster, Panorama Ray Herbert, Kevn Kinney, Purvis Young, Harry Underwood, Eben Dunn, Ruth Franklin, Anna Jensen, and Ato Ribeiro, among others. Also presented within the exhibition is Self Fashioning Sacred Selves, a companion exhibition exploring how Black artists and communities shape identity through movement, visual art, storytelling, and cultural expression.
